Barb

Barbara Marsh grew up in Minnesota and came to Alaska in 1978. She has a varied work history including lots of cooking experience. Her first business venture was a small take-out cafe in downtown Anchorage. Barb's father was a small business owner and one of her finest inspirations. When Barb is not engaged with running Denali Dreams she enjoys the beauty of Alaska while hiking, camping, kayaking, or walking the dog in the woods.

Janie

Janie Taylor grew up a rice farmers daughter in Northern California. She came to Alaska in 1983 for the summer, and never left! She worked many different jobs over the years, but owning her own business was at the top of her goal list for many years. Probably because she can't stand anyone telling her what to do. Janie came to the realization long after her school years that for her learning is a life-long joy. She is still madly in love with Alaska.

DENALI DREAMS came to being with the desire of two stay-at-home moms wanting to make a little money. In 1992 while Janie was vacationing in New Zealand she met and made friends with some soapmakers. They showed her the process and when she got back home she made a few batches as Christmas gifts. Barb received one of these gift soaps and was so delighted that she wanted to learn the soap making process herself. Wondering if there was a market in Alaska they decided to take their soaps to the local bazaars for a test run. The soaps were so popular that they immediately decided to go into business together. Soap production has gone from 1600 bars that first year to 55,000 in 2006. Salves, body oils, and lip balms have been added to the Denali Dreams line. Their children have all worked at one time or another for the business. They now have 3 mostly full time employees and other part-time workers. The business has grown and so have they. After more than 10 years happily in business they are proof that partnerships do work.

Denali Dreams soap is made in small batches using the cold process method. These soaps retain all the natural glycerin formed in the soap making process. All the soaps are super-fatted with oils, like olive or avocado, for extra moisturizing. The soaps are colored with herbs, spices, and natural pigments and scented mainly with essential oils. Using pure and natural products is important at Denali Dreams. We take pride in the quality of our soap and delight in sharing with others the pleasure of using a beautiful handmade soap....Enjoy!

Mission Statement - To create and manufacture useful all natural soaps and body products that are good for the skin...and have some fun!

2227 Spenard Road, Anchorage, Alaska

We started business in Barb's kitchen, quickly moving over to the other side of her duplex.
Outgrowing that space, in August 2003 we moved our business to a space in the historic
Spenard district of Anchorage. We have been here happily ever since. If you happen to be
in our part of town, stop by and say hi.
